Mandisa Makalima Bio
A Co-owner of A Certain Company, Mandisa’s journey in the music industry began when she was still a student at Wits University, spending her afternoons at the record company EMI, first out of curiosity, and the desire to earn pocket money. She learned the ropes of the music business and in a heartbeat fuelled her passion for music, and managed to expand her view on what it was to be in the music and entertainment business. Mandisa’s career at EMI began with her gaining experience in PR and music sampling with all media forms. From there on she went on to work with other giant record companies and independent (indies) record companies.
Mandisa has also co-owned and managed a franchise in one of South Africa’s largest music and DVD retailers – Reliable Music Warehouse. Her passion for business and music saw her receiving awards for exceeding sales targets, and running a well-oiled franchise.
She has far exceeded her beginnings with an extensive resume that includes; managing launches for artists such as Brian Temba and Rebecca Malope, being involved in large scale events like the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Mzansi Loves Soul Music, Men of Soul Concert, Joe Thomas SA Tour in 2011, KEM Intimacy SA Tour in 2012 and music events targeted toward women, like Valentine’s Day and Women’s Day concerts. Hands On Productions also had a Joint Venture with Sony Music SA focusing on artists from production to marketing, etc.
Having produced and marketed Brian Temba’s CD “Something Better” on a local and international landscape, it’s easy to see the expanse of Mandisa’s business and creative abilities, which has led to her working with international artists like Ne-yo, Kenny Lattimore and Rahsaan Patterson, Anthony Hamilton. She also worked closely with Steve Campbell based in London, UK who is an amazing and talented producer that worked with Craig David, Jamaraquie and more.
Formerly managed, marketing, brand developed Brian Temba and other successful artists, its clear Mandisa’s drive will take her to greater heights.
Mandisa stands for passion as being the number 1 driver, and honesty being a key factor in maximising an artist’s brand, “One can’t seek their own personal gain when representing an artist; it has to be about the artist!” Mandisa is driven by seeing artists who are genuinely talented achieving their goals. The artist is the number one priority, and it’s about getting them the airplay, print media exposure, and an all-encompassing marketing strategy, that will make an artist’s music retailable without losing their identity.
